Improved connections and a new station

Public transport links in the area include South Bermondsey Station and the P12 bus. However, it is felt that there is much potential for improvement to ensure that the area becomes better connected to the rest of Lewisham and other areas of London.

The Masterplan includes the creation of two new bus routes through the site and facilitates the delivery of a new Overground station (located at Surrey Canal Road), to support the area’s growth and be a positive addition to the local transport network. The new station - New Bermondsey - will provide services south towards Clapham Junction and north towards Highbury and Islington and link into the wider Overground and Underground networks.

The proposed extension of the Bakerloo Line to Lewisham via the Old Kent Road and New Cross Gate, which is supported by TfL, Lewisham and Southwark councils will also further improve the accessibility of the area.
